Don’t look now but we’re rapidly approaching the halfway mark for 2016. If you’re like most business owners, there is probably a laundry list of things you wanted to accomplish online in 2016. From getting mobile friendly to making regular blog posts, here are 5 things your business should be doing online.

Get Mobile Friendly

Previously we outlined why having a mobile friendly website is a must. It continues to prove to be an increasingly important factor in having a successful online strategy. New reports show that up to 56% of traffic to top sites are on mobile devices. In addition to the continuing surge in mobile traffic, Google’s search algorithm change to favor mobile friendly site has had an even bigger impact on SEO than even originally thought. Bottom line, if you’re not mobile friendly you are falling behind quickly!

Start A Blog – Post Frequently

Content is king and if you’re not providing new, fresh content you can quickly fall behind your competitors. After surveying more than 13,500+ of their users, Hubspot found that companies that publish 16+ blog posts monthly get more than 3 times more traffic and more than 4 times more leads than their counterparts who publish less than 4 posts. If you’re not providing content for your users, they’ll find someone else who is!

Speed Up Your Site

In addition to having a clear user experience for your website, page loading time plays a huge part in your end user’s experience on your site. Not only does it affect their browsing experience, Google has also started factoring page loading speed into their ranking algorithm. Kiss Metrics has found that:

•47% of consumers expect a web page to load in 2 seconds or less.
•40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load.
•A 1 second delay in page response can result in a 7% reduction in conversions.

Hosting your site on a slow, shared server may save you some dollars initially but over time your site will suffer by not having a reliable host serve your website fast.

Get Social

The statistics are in and social media marketing isn’t going away any time soon. If you don’t have an active presence on social media you are already behind! Participating in social media humanizes your brand causing people to feel connected to your mission & product. And the more connected people are to your brand, the more likely they are to use your goods/services!

Build An Email List

Those who are serious about growing their business are building healthy email lists. Not only is email marketing one of the least expensive marketing plans but it also allows you direct access to your most engaged visitors. Creating attractive offers/giveaways, having a blog newsletter subscription, and adding opt-ins on existing forms are just a few ways to turn your website into an email capturing machine!
